What is grain spawn?
Grain spawn is sterilized grain (we use certified organic millet) that has been inoculated with mushroom mycelium. It serves as the seed material you mix into bulk substrate to grow mushrooms at scale.
How much spawn do I need per bag?
A standard spawn-to-substrate ratio is 10-20% by weight. One 5 lb bag of grain spawn is enough to inoculate 25-50 lbs of bulk substrate, depending on the species and your preferred colonization speed.
How long does grain spawn last?
Grain spawn is best used within 2-4 weeks of receiving it. Store it in a cool, dark place (around 4°C / fridge temperature) if you need to delay use. Do not freeze grain spawn.
