How to Grow Your Chestnut Mushrooms
Growing Chestnut mushrooms at home is straightforward with this beginner mushroom kit:
- Open — Cut an opening in the bag to expose the colonized substrate.
- Mist — Spray the opening with water 2–3 times daily. Chestnut mushrooms appreciate cool, humid conditions.
- Harvest — In 10–14 days, your beautiful capped Chestnut mushrooms will be ready to pick.
After your first flush, continue misting and the kit will produce additional harvests. Patient growers are often rewarded with two or more rounds of fresh mushrooms.
What You’ll Harvest
Chestnut mushrooms are a chef’s delight. Their firm texture holds up beautifully to cooking, and their deep, nutty flavour intensifies when sautéed. They are wonderful in risottos, cream sauces, alongside steak or roasted vegetables, tossed with pasta, or simply pan-fried in butter with herbs. Their classic capped shape also makes them a beautiful garnish and a showpiece on any plate. If you have only ever tried standard button mushrooms, Chestnut mushrooms will be a revelation.

OK, I will admit, I purchased 2 kits (chestnut and oyster) in the middle of the night while looking on line about mushroom. I did NO research and had no idea what to expect. My girlfriend was so in awe with the idea of growing mushrooms at home, she took the oyster kit home with her.
