Question 1

What mushroom growing supplies do I need to get started?

Accepted Answer

To start growing mushrooms you need autoclavable grow bags, sterilized grain spawn or pre-sterilized substrate, and a liquid culture or spore syringe. Nature Lion sells all of these as a bundle or individually. A pressure cooker is required if you plan to sterilize your own substrate; if you want a simpler start, our pre-sterilized substrate bags are ready to inoculate straight out of the bag.

Question 2

Are your grow bags autoclavable?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Our polypropylene mushroom grow bags are rated to withstand autoclave temperatures up to 121°C (250°F) and 15 PSI. They are BPA-free and come with a self-healing injection port and a 0.5-micron filter patch for gas exchange.

Question 3

What is the difference between pre-sterilized substrate and bulk substrate?

Accepted Answer

Pre-sterilized substrate bags are sterilized, hydrated, and ready to inoculate — no pressure cooker required. Bulk substrate (sold dry) must be hydrated, loaded into grow bags, and pressure-cooked before inoculation. Pre-sterilized bags are ideal for beginners; bulk substrate offers lower cost per unit for experienced growers.

Question 4

Do you ship growing supplies across Canada?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We ship all mushroom growing supplies Canada-wide from our CFIA-licensed facility in Brantford, Ontario. Standard shipping typically arrives in 3–7 business days. Free shipping on orders $50+.
