A fixed misting schedule cannot describe every room, species, block, or kit design. The useful question is whether the fruiting surface and developing mushrooms are drying, staying appropriately moist, or remaining persistently wet.

Observe before misting
Look for a lightly hydrated surface rather than standing water. Note rapid drying, cracking, shrivelling pins, pooling, saturated packaging, or water sitting on developing fruit bodies. A room humidity reading helps, but sensor position and the microclimate at the opening also matter.
- Use clean water and a fine mist when misting is appropriate
- Avoid forceful spraying directly into fragile pins
- Let persistent pooling drain or evaporate
- Record ventilation changes because more fresh air can also increase drying

Balance moisture with fresh air
Low fresh-air exchange can contribute to elongated stems, small caps, or coral-like growth in some species, while aggressive ventilation can dry a small opening quickly. Change one factor at a time where practical and photograph the response.

Escalate when the pattern is changing
A rapidly spreading colour change, unpleasant odour, collapsing tissue, or repeated aborted pins is not solved by blindly increasing misting. Isolate questionable kits from other grows and document the change.
