Mould or Mycelium on a Mushroom Kit?
White growth on a mushroom block is often mycelium—the mushroom growing through its food. Here’s what to check and when to send us a photo.

The white covering is part of your kit
Mycelium is the white growth that holds the block together. You may see it as a thin coating or a thicker white layer over the brown growing material. At setup, gently scraping the exposed part is intentional; you don’t need to strip the whole block.
Colour alone cannot confirm that a kit is healthy. Our growth photos show mushrooms, not a reliable mould identification test.

Pause if something looks wrong
If you notice a new spreading green or black patch, unusual slime or a bad smell, stop handling the affected area and contact us. Keep the kit apart from other grows while you wait for advice. Don’t scrape off a suspicious patch and assume that fixes it.

Take two useful photos
Take one photo of the whole box and one close-up in daylight, without opening the bag further. Tell us whether the patch was there when the kit arrived or appeared after you started misting. Keep the packaging and order details.

Include the box label and the growing opening.
Show the area that worries you
Get close enough to show its colour and texture, with the camera in focus.
